Global Markets

Global markets are experiencing volatility driven by profit taking in AI and semiconductor stocks, the Fed’s hawkish stance, and fluctuations in oil prices due to developments in the U.S.–Iran conflict. Next week, market attention will focus on U.S. employment data particularly the JOLTS, ADP, and ISM Manufacturing PMI reports as well as the NFP and unemployment rate, which will be released early on July 2 due to the Independence Day holiday, along with the Fed Chair’s speech, which will shape expectations regarding the direction of interest rates.

Indonesian Markets

Last week, the Indonesian market faced pressure and a correction, weighed down by global sentiment (the tech sell-off and the Fed’s hawkish stance), foreign outflows in response to the MSCI review being extended through November, and geopolitical factors. The commodities sector and several blue-chip stocks also dragged the market down. Next week, investors will be watching CPI inflation data, the Manufacturing PMI, the trade balance, and the stability of the rupiah amid the impact of U.S. employment data.

Weekly Highlight on Economic Indicators

Our Take:

JCI dropped -4.55% WoW to 5,896, with market capitalization shrinking 4.51% to Rp10,302 trillion, weighed down by a sell off in large cap stocks amid the MSCI review results which, while maintaining Indonesia’s Emerging Market status, included a caveat as well as the global technology sector’s weakness, rising macroeconomic uncertainty, and S&P Global’s review of Indonesia’s credit rating.
