Global Markets

Global markets rose last week, buoyed by second-quarter earnings particularly in the technology and AI sectors as well as U.S. jobs data showing a decline of 23,000 against expectations of an increase of 86,000, although the unemployment rate fell to 4.1%. This week, markets are focusing on U.S. CPI and PPI figures, which will determine the direction of Fed interest rate expectations, as well as data from China, the RBA, U.K. GDP, German inflation, and geopolitical developments in the Middle East.

Indonesian Markets

Indonesian markets improved last week, supported by 5.29% economic growth in Q2 2026, 2.88% inflation in July, foreign exchange reserves of US$145.3 billion, and a strengthening rupiah, although volatility remains high due to external pressures and net foreign selling. This week, the market will be watching the Presidential State of the Nation Address and the 2027 Draft State Budget on August 14, as well as the BI Monetary Policy Meeting on August 18–19, as key catalysts for fiscal policy direction and expectations of monetary policy easing.

Weekly Highlight on Economic Indicators

Our Take:

JCI rose 2.78% WoW to 6,409, with the IDX’s market cap increasing 2.64% to Rp11,212 trillion. The rally was driven by buying activity in large-cap stocks, solid domestic economic data (2Q26 GDP at 5.29% year-over-year, TPT at 4.65%, and improved poverty figures), as well as easing geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. Trading activity also increased, although foreign investors continued to record net selling. Investors are closely monitoring the VAT DTP stimulus and EV incentives, while the trade deficit remains a risk.
